Mai Da is the historical name of the vast land and is the administrative unit with the most “carving out” and “engraving” in Hoa Binh province.

The North Ky Kinh commander Nguyen Trong Hop signed a decree on May 23, the first Dong Khanh year (June 22, 1886), to cut off the region with a significant Muong population living in the provinces of Hung Hoa and Son Tay. Hanoi and Ninh Binh founded a separate province called Muong province. At this time, Hien Luong canton, Da Bac province, was home to the provincial capital of Muong province, which is why numerous records referred to this new administrative region as Cho Bo province. Ky Son, Lac Son, Lac Thuy, Luong Son, Da Bac, and Chau Mai were the six continents that made up Muong province (Hoa Binh) at this time.

The name Mai Da first appeared in October 1890 when Chau Mai and Chau Da Bac merged into Chau Mai Da. In 1901, Mai Da was split into two continents: Da Bac and Mai Chau. In 1941, Da Bac and Mai Chau merged to form Mai Da. May 1947 Chau Mai Da was merged into Zone 14 (mainly Da Bac area). In January 1948, zones 10 and 14 were merged into Interzone 10 (later Viet Bac Interzone) and later Mai Da district. On September 21, 1956, the Prime Minister issued Decree No. 1053-TTg dividing Mai Da district into two districts: Mai Chau and Da Bac.

Mai Da, thus, is the old place name including both Mai Chau and Da Bac districts now located on both sides of the South and North banks of the Da River. In the memory of many people in Hoa Binh, even after 4 times of re-entering and finally parting, Mai Da is still a name full of fond memories. Choosing the name Maida, we want to remind us of the years and memories of the many people who created the land that we are fortunate to meet today.

Mai Da can also be understood as the morning on the Da River. Interestingly, the word “Maida” means “beautiful maiden” in English. Therefore, the Maida Lodge area’s design concepts and architecture likewise capture the cheery energy of the morning by the river and the elegant beauty of the young woman.
